Happy Valentine’s Day

Well, its finally here – Valentine’s Day 2013 – and we hope all your plans are coming together. Whether you’re splashing out on a big night out with your date at one of our many high quality restaurants, doing something a bit quirkier, or just having an intimate night in with some wine and a film we hope you have a great evening.

If you’ve still not quite managed to find someone tonight, its not too late to get searching. We’re near enough to the weekend now to start thinking about making use of those precious days off. Expect to see couples all over the place in the next few days on activity weekends, or sharing new experiences with each other.

Speaking of new experiences, many people are turning to eating at venues with live music these days. As the saying goes, “If music be the food of love, play on.” so we’re not surprised to hear that local venues are enjoying an upswing right now. Of course, you may prefer to bring the music to you – and with streaming music services you can have as much variety or specialisation in your musical diet for your date without having to keep getting up to change album choices.

Music plays a huge part in many people’s Valentine’s Day, so we were intrigued to find out that Spotify has identified this year’s top romantic songs as streamed by Australians. In the top spot is “Endless Love” by Lionel Richie and Diana Ross, proving that there’s a huge majority of us who are sappy romantics at heart. The number two slot was claimed by Michael Jackson’s classic smoothie, “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You”.

Its always fascinating when a major service takes a look at its customer data like this and publishes the results. Other songs in their most popular plays include songs by James Blunt, Toni Braxton, Ronan Keating, Elton John – and of course, “Careless Whisper” by George Michael. They’ve even put together a specific Valentine’s-themed playlist that I’m sure many of you will already have discovered.

Whatever you’re doing this evening, or have planned for the weekend, stay safe and have fun
