How Important is Good Grammar in Your Profile?

You might think that taking the time to check the grammar in your profile, or in the messages that you send, was pretty obvious. Unfortunately though, a quick check across profiles out there suggests that perhaps this has not been people’s highest priority.

Some recent research by professional proof-readers has thrown up some interesting snippets that we think is worth bearing in mind the next time you’re putting together a message or revising your site profile.

General trends

  • Women are more particular about good grammar than men.
  • An amazing forty three percent of people surveyed stated that they found poor grammar a turn-off.
  • Another thirty five percent said that they found good grammar sexy.
  • The overwhelming majority of people who publish their online profiles on dating sites don’t even do a simple spell check first.

I know, going on about grammar when you’re just keen to get looking for love sounds a bit, well, pedantic I know. But think about this. What you write has a direct effect on how other people reading it perceive you.

It really doesn’t matter if you’re writing your dating profile, looking for a new job or writing the next must-read novel. Time and again surveys are finding that the same attitudes and responses hold true. Good grammar, and time and care spent considering what you write and how, will always make you stand out from the next person on the list. That is what you want, right?
