There are loads of reasons why people return to the dating scene in their 50s and 60s. Whether you’ve been married before or it just somehow never quite happened for you, you’re not alone and a lot easier to remedy that situation. This may be hard to believe though. Many people report that they are not optimistic about finding a soul mate, or about their chances of being happy again in a relationship. The stereotype seems to be that dating just isn’t for you once you’re older.

This kind of defeatism is entirely unwarranted however. If you believe there’s no chance of dating when you’re older, then it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Why not take into account that today, you have far more wisdom and experience than you ever did the first time round. The technology may have changed almost beyond recognition in recent years, but people haven’t.

No matter what their age, people in general still have the same wants, needs and desires – even if their priorities may be a little different in later years. A recent AARP study of singles aged over fifty five reported that nearly half rated having someone to do things with or talk to as their most important reason for dating.

Perhaps it’s not surprising then that the fastest growing sector of subscribers to online dating sites is made up of so-called senior daters. With technology providing easier access to like-minded individuals, many baby boomers are finding that this is the perfect time to get out there and have some fun.

Their first marriages may be over – either through divorce or bereavement – and their kids are all grown up and have fled the nest, so why not take advantage of better opportunities to find companionship and a new zest for life?

Don’t be afraid to show that you’re not ready to be put out to pasture yet. By taking a positive approach to how you present yourself and what you are looking for, you’ll find yourself able to relax and start having fun.
